By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

It is impossible to track exports of Iranian oil and petrochemical products, Iranian energy expert Emad Rafiei said, Trend reports referring to the Young Journalists Club (YJC).

Rafiei said that crude oil, when processed, turns into more than 50 oil and petrochemical products, adding that these products have millions of customers worldwide.

The expert noted that Iran’s oil products are exported via pipelines to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.

“Iran has the potential to produce 4.5 million barrels of crude oil and gas condensate daily,” Rafiei said.

The energy expert added that 2.1 million barrels are processed domestically in Iran.

Rafiei noted that 2.4 million barrels of crude oil may be exported, however, this figure fell below 1 million barrels as a result of the sanctions.

“If other plants like the Persian Gulf Star Refinery had been built over the past 10-15 years, Iran wouldn’t have faced problems caused by the sanctions,” the expert said.

The US imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018 and expanded the list of sanctions in several stages.
