Minister: Iran's military industry ready to help automotive industry

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 12

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iran's military industry is ready to help the country's automotive industry gain access to the technologies and protect its production, Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami told reporters in Iran.

“Presently, the Iranian defense industry companies cooperate with such big car companies as Iran Khodro and Saipa,” Hatami added, Trend reports referring to Fars news agency.

The minister added that as a result of the US sanctions, the foreign companies stopped to operate in Iran and Iran's automotive industry faced the problems.

Hatami said that Iran began to produce many spare parts domestically as a result of sanctions.

The minister said that Iran's defense industry companies produce military vehicles for the armed forces and do not produce ordinary vehicles.

"Iran’s defense industry companies produce only some spare parts for ordinary cars," Hatami said.

The US imposed sanctions against Iran in November last year. As a result of these sanctions, many foreign companies stopped to operate in Iran. This had a negative impact on the production volumes in several industries in Iran.
