Iran discloses volume of purchased wheat

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8

About 2.4 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in Iran from April 4 to June 7, said Mohammad Taghi Tabatabaee, head of public relations department of Government Trading Corporation of Iran, Trend reports citing the corporation's website.

According to Tabatabaee, so far, the value of wheat purchased from farmers was 60 trillion rials (about $1.42 billion).

Tabatabaee added that the largest wheat purchased from farmer was in the Khuzestan Province (1.2 million tons), in the Fars Province (360,000 tons), and in the Golestan Province (210,000 tons).

The official said that in addition, more than 197,000 tons of rapeseed were purchased from farmers in Iran.

"The value of the rapeseed purchased was more than 8.8 trillion rials (about $209 million)," he said.

The official said that the largest amount of rapeseed purchased from farmer was in the Golestan Province (73,000 tons), in the Khuzestan Province (67,000 tonds), in the Ilam Province (16,000 tons).

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram of durum wheat in Iran in the current Iranian year. A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by the state company under a guarantee in Iran.
