Chamber of Commerce: Iran's ports capable to improve regional transit to Afghanistan, Central Asia

TEHRAN, Iran, Sept.6

Trend:

Iran's ports have the capacity to improve regional transit to Afghanistan and Central Asia, said a member of Iran's Chamber of Commerce Mehrdad Bazargan, Trend reports citing Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran.

"Iran's ports currently have the capacity and the proper conditions for maritime cargo transit and we should be ready to go full speed in post-sanctions era," said Bazargan.

"The country's port capacities should be increased and gradually develop to have a more significant role in global economic scale," he said.

Bazargan added that although the US sanctions have made the country more distant from global economy, the government support of port and maritime sector could help move matters forward.

"Small ports are very important in this regard, and they should be supported through investments, there are good opportunities for this," he pointed out.

"In order to release commodities from ports and increase the capacities, the bureaucracy that exists in this sector, should be reduced," Bazargan noted.
