Iran to sell airline tickets via blockchain platform

TEHRAN, Iran, May. 25

Trend:

An unknown Iranian airline is going to be the first local airline which is going to issue flight tickets via a blockchain platform.

In order to move towards the digital economy and the use of blockchain technology in the aviation industry, an Iranian Airline, intends to issue blockchain airline tickets, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

In November 2019, the world's first blockchain airline tickets have been issued, via the Winding Tree platform, for a Hahn Air flight from Dusseldorf to Luxembourg.

A new study has found that Iran now accounts for 4.5 percent of the world’s bitcoin mining and that the country is using the technology to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency assets to circumnavigate crippling sanctions imposed by the US and other countries.

But the new research from blockchain analytics firm Elliptic suggests that the country has turned to crypto mining as a new lifeline and a means of commodifying its energy potential, which is considerable and relatively inexpensive given that Iran is the world’s biggest producer of natural gas.
