TEHRAN, Iran, June. 1
Trend:
The Spokesman for the Iranian Government said that Iraqis, with the permission of US OFAC(Office of Foreign Assets Control), have used various methods to repay Iran's demands in exchange for the supply of medicine, vaccines, and basic goods.
Referring to the repayment of Iraq's debt to Iran, the Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei said in a press conference today, that the US government's unilateral sanctions over the past three years have been so severe and brutal, designed to undermine Iran's economy, Trend reports citing ILNA.
"Iraq, which is our country's closest neighbor, is no exception to US pressure,” he said. "Some deliberately do not want to see these brighter facts and accuse the government of failing to work with its neighbors, with a simple and incomplete understanding of international financial mechanisms."
“In order to deepen cooperation with neighbors, we need to get rid of sanctions. During the visit of the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister to Tehran, there was a discussion and agreement on trade relations and repayment of Iraq's debts to Iran,” Rabiei noted.
He expressed Iran's readiness to continue the export of electricity and gas.
“There was discussion and agreement and assurance that the export of electricity and gas will continue if Iraq takes effective measures to repay its debt,” Rabiei added.
