TEHRAN, Iran, June 12
Trend:
The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has announced that Iran's government has paid over $16 million of its dues to the UN, through the CBI, Trend reports via IRNA.
By paying its debts, Iran gained its vote at the UN General Assembly, after the US enabled Tehran to use its funds frozen in South Korea for paying its UN debts.
Iran's U.N. Ambassador Majid Takht Ravanchi said the US sanctions 'have not just deprived our people of medicine; they have also prevented Iran from paying our dues in arrears to the U.N.'.
"After more than 6 months of working on it, the U.N. announced it has received the funds," he said.
