TEHRAN, Iran, November 8. Iran has targeted to produce 1 million tons of cathode copper in the next six years as part of the comprehensive copper production plan, said head of the Iran Copper Association Bahram Shakouri, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation (IMIDRO) has drafted the plan, he said, adding that the annual cathode copper production currently stands at 280,000 tons and is expected to first increase to 800,000 tons by 2025 and then to 1 million tons in the following years.

He predicted that demand for copper will quadruple in the upcoming years, which will in turn increase the copper price and attract investments.

According to the official, Iran exports more than 50 percent of its cathode production and an increase in production generates more revenue.
