BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 4. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iranian Shadgan port in southwestern Iran’s province of Khuzestan handled rose by 13 percent in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director of Iran's Shadgan Port and Maritime Administration Mustafa Sakrani said, Trend reports.
Sakrani said that about 14,156 tons of cargo were loaded at Shadgan port in 11 months.
He added that the loads are mainly construction materials and animal feed, which were exported to countries around the Persian Gulf.
According to the representative of the port, 100,000 tons of cargo can be loaded and unloaded at Shadgan port. This port is considered one of the most important small ports in Khuzestan province. The port has a covered warehouse with an area of 1,200 square meters.
To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
Meanwhile, about 214 million tons of cargo was loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in 11 months. The volume of cargo loading and unloading in the ports increased by 9% compared to the same period last year.
