BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16. The output of red meat produced in Iran in the 11th month of the current Iranian year (from January 21 through February 19, 2024) decreased by 15 percent compared to the same month of last year, the data of Iran's Statistical Center says, Trend reports.
According to the statistics, 33,097 tons of red meat were produced in Iran in the 11th month. However, the figure was 38,975 tons in the same month last year.
The statistics indicate that beef production by cows and calves for the 11th month totaled 17,892 tons. Calf and beef production decreased by 13 percent compared to the same month last year. Beef production for the same period last year amounted to 20,564 tons.
Information adds that in the mentioned month, production of mutton and lamb was 12,149 tons. The production of mutton and lamb decreased by 29 percent compared to the same month last year. Production of mutton and lamb in the same month last year was 14,986 tons.
According to the statistics, the production of goat meat was 2,060 tons. Goat meat production decreased by 19 percent compared to the same month last year. Goat meat production in the same month last year was 2,554 tons.
Based on the statistics, the production of other red meat (buffalo and camel) for the 11th month was 996 tons. Compared to the same month last year, the production of other red meat increased by 14.4 percent. Production of other red meat in the same month last year was 871 tons.
Meanwhile, according to the statistics of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture, the country produces 1.2 million tons of red meat per year.
To note, 1 kg of lamb in Iran currently costs 4.2-12 million rials (about $100-286), while 1 kg of cow and veal meat costs about 3.2-5.9 million rials (about $76.2-140).
