Iran, Qatar press ahead with joint gas field dev't

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 26. Development of the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar), Iran's joint gas field with Qatar, continues on the Iranian side, executive director of Iran's Pars oil and gas company Mohammad Hossein Motejali said, Trend reports.

According to Motejali, the drilling of the 5th well in the 11th phase of the field is approaching completion. Production from the fifth well will start soon as well.

Motejali added that drilling for Phase 6 Well 11 will start soon.

The company official said that jacketing operations on platform 11A are also continuing in phase 11. In phases A and B, the platforms are being developed through Petropars' investment. South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar.

To note, the gas reserves in this field are 51 trillion cubic meters, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be produced. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.

Iran has 24 phases of the South Pars gas field. Iran started production in this field in 2002. It is reported that Iran is currently producing a total of 700 million cubic meters of gas per day from these phases. It is estimated that Iran has spent $90 billion on this field.

Approximately 33 percent of the gas that can be produced from the gas field belongs to Iran.

On the Iranian side, the fields have been developed by Iran, while on the Qatari side, the fields have been developed mainly by foreign companies.
