BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Iran's natural gas consumption in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) increased by more than 7 bcm compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), the dispatching director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Saeed Aghili said, Trend reports.
According to Aghili, Iran consumed 249 bcm of natural gas last year.
Aghili added that 119 bcm of the consumed gas is accounted for by apartments, commercial and catering facilities, and small industrial enterprises. Gas consumption in the mentioned places decreased by 3 percent compared to the previous year.
The official noted that 51 bcm of gas was consumed by large industrial enterprises last year. Gas consumption at large industrial enterprises increased by 11 percent compared to the previous year.
He stated that Iran's thermal power plants consumed 79 bcm of gas last year. Gas consumption increased by 6 percent compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, Iran consumed more than 117 bcm of gas in the first half of the last Iranian year and 132 bcm in the second half of the year.
To note, Iran is considered the second-largest gas reserve country in the world, with gas reserves of about 34 trillion cubic meters. Currently, 22 gas fields are operating in Iran.
