Will Iran, US come to a fair compromise?

Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 20

By Farhad Daneshvar – Trend:

Akbar Ganji, an Iranian political expert and author, believes that friendly ties between Iran and the US would benefit both nations and help establish peace in the region and world.

“President Hassan Rouhani in a recent interview suggested that Barack Obama opened a path that led to the meeting and negotiation between Iranian and American presidents. But Trump has blocked this path,” Ganji told Trend.

“Addressing the UN General Assembly today, Rouhani responded to Trump’s remarks and defended win-win games. Rouhani said Iran is ready to negotiate and resolve the issues, but not to re-negotiate the nuclear deal which has already been concluded. Rouhani spoke about his country’s need for foreign investment in infrastructure and he called on the world to cooperate with Iran”

Rouhani believes that Trump with his wrong policies has imposed sanctions against his own country regarding Iran.

“If Trump is a successful businessman, he should properly use this chance. In my opinion, Iran and the US have various common interests, and friendly ties between the two countries would be in the favor of both sides and also establishing stability in the region and the world. If he acts against such policy, it will prove that he is not even a successful businessman.”

As for the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, Ganji believes that Donald Trump seeks an anti-Obama attitude in his domestic and foreign policies.

“It means that Trump is after undermining the achievements in all spheres, in particular Obama-care and the 2015 nuclear deal.”

“Trump is influenced by the policies of the right-wing Israeli government and considers the interests of Israel as the interests of his own country. On the other hand, due to the huge foreign exchange reserves of the Arab states of the Persian Gulf he is affected by Saudi Arabia and the UAE. I mean Trump is creating the atmosphere of war and fear in order to sell arms to the Arab states.”

“Trump also mixes the truth and lies in order to spread Iranophobia in order to satisfy Iran’s opponents and also create a foreign enemy in order to get rid of domestic crises, in particular the issue of Russia’s interference in the US presidential elections.”

“In general, Trump has failed to convince the other signatories of the nuclear deal to cooperate with him against Iran. In addition to Russia and China, the European governments also defend the nuclear deal. He faces a number of domestic opponents, as well.”
