A senior Iranian expert in international affairs believes that Europe should work with Iran and leave the United States considering current political situation in the Islamic Republic.

“Of course, that will be hard to accomplish,” Professor Jafar Ghamat told Trend, “Because Europe has greater consensus with the United States on political and security issues, one of which is the nuclear issue."

The expert said the reason for Europe not leaving the nuclear deal and continuing to work with Iran is quite understandable.

“In a realistic approach to Europe’s policy, one can see that they are pursuing their own interests. Nevertheless, the interests with the United States in the long run will prevail, because Europe’s economic links with the US are much stronger than those with Iran,” Ghamat noted.

He added that even though Europe will try to meet Iran’s interests for now, as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic has said, they are not reliable.

“Russia and China will take the most out of the US withdrawal from the Iran’s nuclear deal, because they have maintained relations with Iran for quite some time already. Iran should work in a way so it does not come under pressure,” Ghamat said.

As the situation goes forward to the state of emergency, Europeans will expect more concessions from Iran, he concluded.
