Iran is fully prepared to defend itself in proxy wars, the Islamic Republic's Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said.

Presence of the terrorist groups in the region has formed a new face of threats against Iran, however Tehran is completely ready for proxy war, he said.

Speaking on the sidelines of a military drill, Pourdastan said that the army should change its tactics in order to confront the terrorist groups' threats, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported May 25.

He said that the army tested advanced tactics specifically designed for fighting against proxy wars during the ongoing military exercises.

Pourdastan added that Iranian army monitors are activities and moves within its borders as well as region and beyond the region.

The Iranian commander earlier claimed that the extremist groups such as the Islamic State (IS) are fighting on behalf of US.

In recent days Iranian officials have accused the US of having some plans to bring the regional insecurity to Iran's borders.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameni said May 20 that the Islamic Republic enemies are trying to bring the proxy war to Iranian borders.

"We have received some information that our enemies are working with some Persian Gulf governments to bring the proxy war to Iranian borders," Ayatollah Khameni said.
