22,000 foreigners detained in Iran for border violation

The number of citizens of foreign countries detained in Iran while attempting to illegally cross the border in the direction of Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year and to this day (year in Iran begins on March 21) stood at 22,000, Iranian TV channel IRIBNews reported with reference to commander of Iranian West Azerbaijan province border guards Shahram Abbasi.
He said that during the mentioned period 150-200 citizens of foreign countries were being detained daily for attempts to cross the border illegally.
Iranian province of West Azerbaijan shares a border with Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan with a length of 965 kilometers.
