Iranian media outlets have published conflicting reports over the death of a high ranking commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

While Mehr news agency has reported that Rear Admiral Mohammad Nazeri, the commander of the Navy Special Force of the IRGC, passed away following a heart failure in a hospital, other media outlets have suggested that he died during a mission in the region of "Nazeat" in the Persian Gulf.

"During a mission in Nazeat region," Mohammad Nazeri joined his martyred comrades," IRIB reported on May 11.

IRGC has named a strategic part of the Persian Gulf including the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb as "Nazeat".

Tasnim news agency which is considered to be affiliated with the IRGC on May 10 reported that Nazeri passed away following the heart failure. However, Tasnim, in a separate report on May 11 suggested that he died during a mission.

The reports did not provide further details.
