Vice-speaker of Iranian parliament, Ali Motaharti’s scheduled speech was revoked in north eastern city of Mashhad under a decree issued by the prosecutor.

Ali Motaharti was scheduled to deliver a speech on the occasion of a religious event in Mashhad City this morning but police forced the audience to leave the event venue, IRNA news agency reported.

In the meantime, the judiciary officials have reportedly sealed the provincial office of reformists due to inviting the senior MP.

Ali Motahari who is traditionally known as a moderate figure, was backed by reformists in the latest round of parliamentary elections in the country.

Over the past years, his controversial remarks about the country’s political landscape have sparkled the conservatives’ criticism.
