By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

Iran has unveiled a new home-made tank during a ceremony attended by Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan on March 12.

The tank dubbed “Karrar” has been completely designed and manufactured by the country’s defense ministry, Tasnim news agency reported.

In the meantime, the country inaugurated the mass production line for producing the tank in Bani Hashem Defense Industrial Complex in Dorud city, Lorestan Province in western Iran.

Karrar is equipped with electro-optical fire control system, laser rangefinder, ballistic computer, and ability to fire at fixed and mobile targets during daytime and at night.

It is capable of moving through pits, rivers and under water and enjoys a navigation system that can be displayed for the tank driver.

The Karrar tank is capable of firing highly-precise laser-guided missiles, and can be operated by the gunner and commander from two parallel sites,” Dehqan said during the unveiling ceremony.

The minister noted that the tank has a machine gun automation system for firing from inside the atrium under different conditions.

Given the similarities between Karrar and the Russian T-90 tank, some military experts claim that Iranian engineers reverse engineered the T-90 or gained access to some of its plans.

Dehqan earlier said that the home-made tank if not better, it’s still as deadly as the Russian T-90.
