The top Iranian diplomat is scheduled to leave Tehran for Germany on Feb. 17 night, the Iranian foreign ministry’s official website quoted Bahram Qasemi, the ministry’s spokesman as saying.

Zarif is planned to address the conference on Feb. 18, where he will touch upon the most important regional and international security issues and will explain the Islamic Republic’s positions in this regard, Qasemi said.

The spokesman added that Zarif is slated to meet with some foreign officials on the sidelines of the event.

The Munich Security Conference is an annual event where senior officials, think-tankers and former officials meet up to discuss the latest security developments across the globe.

The 54th edition of the event, which kicked off on Feb. 17, comprises three days of debates, speeches, and sideline meetings regarding international defense policy.

More than 30 heads of state and government and over 100 cabinet ministers from across the globe come together at the Munich Security Conference for discussions on major international security challenges.
