Visit of Iran's Zarif to Baku - historic, says MFA spokesman

Iranian MFA spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh called the Islamic Republic Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's visit to Azerbaijan 'historic', Trend reports citing Iran's MFA.
“Today is the first day of Mohammad Javad Zarif's visit to the region. He arrived in Baku last night and will continue to travel to other countries of the region by the end of the week,” Khatibzadeh said at a press conference on Monday.
"The Republic of Azerbaijan is one of our most important neighbors,” he said. “The trip was scheduled to take place a few weeks ago but was postponed due to a government budget review meeting.”
Referring to the minister`s visit to Baku, Khatibzadeh said that Iran hosted several delegations from Republic of Azerbaijan in Iran and very deep and serious MoUs in the field of border issues, economic, trade and political cooperation have been signed between the two sides.
He went on to say that bilateral and regional issues is on Zarif`s agenda in Baku.
Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Baku late on Sunday as part of a regional tour that will also take him to other countries, including Russia, later.
