Commander of Iran's Khatam ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said that the country's airspace is the most secure in the Middle East.

He stated that after the air defense base was launched, the country's airspace security improved greatly.

Some 3,600 spots are monitored by Khatam ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base, and the number will increase to 5,000 spots in near future, he stated, Mehr news agency reported on Mar. 7.

Esmaili went on to announce that the air defense base is going to unveil a radar system named Talash-3 on April 18, the Army Day in Iran.

The official further added that the air defense base has signed numerous contracts with universities and other scholarly centers across the country to cooperate on air defense projects.

In August 2013, Iran announced that it had finalized construction of space radars to detect satellite and space objects' trajectories, adding that the country is now using new passive phased array radars to detect stealth targets and cruise missiles.

Iran has been ramping up its defense industry since 1992, having manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines, unmanned aerial vehicles, and fighter planes.
