Although the number of girls under 13 rarely marry in Iran, such marriages must be prevented, Iranian Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar said.
Such marriages occur due to economic and ethnic reasons, lack of information, Ebtekar added, Trend reports referring to ISNA.
Most of such marriages end in divorces. A bill was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers to prevent such marriages.
According to the Iranian National Organization for Civil Registration, 28 girls under 10 and 317 boys under 15 married from March 21, 2017 to March 21, 2018.
