Iran preparing for possible travel restrictions for Nowruz holiday

Trend:

The Iranian government is prepared to implement possible travel restrictions for the Nowruz holiday in the new Iranian year (starts March 21, 2021) if the Health Ministry announces a travel ban, said the Minister of Road and Urban Development.

"Despite the Health Ministry's warning about Nowruz travels, transportation companies have sold tickets for flights, train and bus rides, although so far these travels have not been banned," said Mohammad Eslami, Trend reports citing ISNA.

He went on to note that at the moment private vehicles are banned from Nowruz travels and the National Headquarters to Control Coronavirus has not made a decision about travels via train and airplane yet. The decision depends on the Coronavirus situation and the spread of the UK variant.

"Transportation companies have announced their regular operating schedules but if the Health Ministry would announce any ban on traveling these restrictions would definitely be implemented. Nowruz travels are currently scheduled based on health protocols and regulations, travels that operate by transportation companies do not break regulations," Eslami added.

"Health officials have announced that people should comply with health protocols on the last of month of the current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) to have a calm Nowruz, however, if any restriction on travels is announced it would be implemented immediately," he pointed out.
