In January-August 2011, a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 9.5%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised 13.3bln. In particular, 75.1 percent accounted for retail sales, 20.4 percent - paid services.
In January-August 2011, the trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 10.2 billion manat, which is 10.1% more than 2010. Legal entities provided 12.9% of turnover, fairs and markets - 42.6%, individual entrepreneurs - 43.8%.
In January-August 2011, the paid service rendered to population amounted to 3.199.8 billion manat, which is 7.7 percent more as compared with 2010. Individual entrepreneurs provided 73.0 percent of services, legal entities - 26.0 percent with growth of 10.2 percent and 2.7 percent respectively.
In January-August 2011, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 184.8 manat that is 16.9 percent higher than 2010, indicating that the purchasing capacity of citizens has increased.
In connection with the rapid economic development and population growth in prosperity, the Azerbaijanis preferred to global brands for many commodities, including alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and other tobacco products, motor vehicles, etc.
Prices
In August 2011, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services increased 0.6 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to January-August 2010 grew by 8.5 percent in 2010 (data from State Statistics Committee).
Compared with January-August 2010, food prices in January-August 2011 grew by 11.7 percent, non-food products - by 2.8 percent and tariffs for services - by 4.4 percent.
Thus, the food prices in August increased by 1.6 percent as compared to July 2011, while prices of non-food products and tariffs for services increased 0.3 percent.
Among paid services rendered to the population in August, tariffs increased for air passenger traffic.
In August 2011, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government increased by 0.7 percent as compared to the previous month, but increased 6.0% to January-August 2010.
Compared with the previous month, in August 2011, the index of industrial products prices reduced by 4.5 percent, compared to the same period of 2010, prices rose by 26.2 percent. Prices reduced by 5.4 percent in the oil and gas production in August compared to the previous month, but rose by 30.7 percent compared to the same period of 2010.
In the processing of chemical products, prices rose by 1.9 percent during the month, but rose by 21.7 percent per annum. In August 2011, the prices in metallurgy fell by 1.3 percent compared to the previous month, but increased by 10.3 percent during the year. In August, prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged as compared to the previous month, while increased by 0.1 percent per annum.
In August, the tariffs for cargo transportation in the transport sector in Azerbaijan fell by 0.2 percent compared to July. According to State Statistics Committee, passenger tariffs in the period rose by 3.2 percent.
In August, the average tariffs for the transportation of 10 tons of cargo per kilometer by railway inside the country and for goods imported into the country increased respectively by 6.4 and 1.6 percent.
Tariffs on goods shipped out of the country declined by 9.6 percent, while tariffs for transit cargo rose by 0.1 percent. In August, there is a 0.1 percent increase in tariffs for international transport of passengers by rail.
At the same time, in August tariffs for the transportation of one ton of cargo via air transport in CIS countries increased by 0.1 percent. Tariffs on passenger transportation by air to foreign countries increased by 10.3 percent, to the CIS countries - 16.4 percent.
Tariffs for transportation of one ton of cargo by water to the CIS countries decreased by 0.1 percent, to foreign countries - by 14.2 percent.
Tariffs for gas transportation via pipelines have remained unchanged, for pumping oil through pipelines - rose by 0.2 percent.
