The foreign trade turnover with 149 world countries amounted to $36.327 billion in 2011, or 29.92 percent more than last year. The volume of exports increased by 24.39 percent to $26.571 billion compared to the same period of 2010. The volume of import increased by 47.81 percent and hit $9.756 billion. Azerbaijan exported 2,082 products, and imported 6,233 different goods. The index of export exceeded import in 2011. This formed the foreign trade surplus to the amount of $16.815 billion.
As in previous periods, oil and oil products are mainly exported from Azerbaijan.

Most Azerbaijan's export fell to the crude oil for 2011 (86.74 percent). It was exported to the amount of $22.9 billion in 2011 or 24.4 percent more compared to the same period of last year.
During the reporting period, oil products were exported to the amount of $ 1.5 billion (an increase of 25 percent per year), or 4.1 percent of total exports.
Azerbaijan exported chemical products to the amount of $120.1 million in 2011, or 2 times more than the same period of last year. The figure hit 0.45 percent of total exports. It should be stressed that "Azerkimya" production association increased exports of the main types of manufactured goods: polyethylene, propylene, isopropyl alcohol, polyethylene, propylene glycol, and others to Turkey. Thus, more than 50 percent of all Azerkimya's export goods are exported to the Turkish market.

The largest volume of export fell to Italy in 2011. Thus, goods worth $ 9.3 billion, or 35.15 percent of total exports were exported from Azerbaijan to Italy during the period. Oil and oil products are mainly exported to this country. The following leading positions are taken by France ($ 4 billion) and U.S. (1.8 billion). It should be stressed that Italy has been taking a leading position since 2008. It took this position for almost 2 years except for the initial three months of 2008. Turkey took a leading position in January 2008 and the U.S in February and March.
The largest volume of imports falls to Russia ($ 1.6 billion) in 2011. Turkey ranks second - $1.3 billion and Germany - third ($845.3 million).
Most Azerbaijan's imports or 31.13 percent during the period fell to the imports of cars, mechanisms, equipment, electric equipment and spare parts. The import of vehicles and spare parts amounted to $ 1.689.7 billion in 2011, or 2 times more than their imports in 2010.
According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, the number of cars imported on customs receipt orders increased by 9,792, or 26.9 percent, and the cost - by $90 million or 51 percent.
The "single window" introduced in the country on Oct. 21 increased the imports of cars in the country while registering cars in the country. The introduction of "single window" greatly simplified the process of state registration of imported vehicles, and significantly reduced the period of registration.

According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, the country's foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries in 2011 totaled $5.498.7 billion or 15.14 percent of total foreign trade turnover compared to 14.47 percent in 2010.
The exports to the CIS countries for the period amounted to $2.925.16 billion and imports - $2.573.5 billion. As a result, the country had black ink in trade with them at $351.6 million in 2011.
During this period, 8,540 legal and physical entities were involved in foreign trade operations, including 3,843 - legal entities and 4,697 - physical entities.
The share of public sector in exports totaled $25.251 billion (95.03 percent), private - $1.127 billion (4.24 percent), the share of physical entities - $0.193 billion (0.73 percent).
The share of public sector in import operations amounted to $3.404 billion (34.89 percent), the private sector - $5.901 billion (60.49 percent), physical entities -$0.451 billion (4.62 percent).
