Adopting new management model - priority for Azerbaijani companies in post-pandemic period

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

Today, many business entities are switching to a new management format due to the change in the general situation in Azerbaijan related to the pandemic and the quarantine regime, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Project Management Association (AzPMA) Fatima Akhundova told Trend on June 23.

“This way, a new communication culture is being formed in the companies at different levels,” the executive director added.

“The global epidemiological situation and the corresponding restrictions created problems in the business and economy of many countries, confusing many companies,” Akhundova added. “The role of strong management in the companies is currently growing rapidly as additional restrictions appear.”

"The pandemic forced companies in the country to switch to remote work, as well as to develop new approaches to the management,” the executive director said. “The reform phase has begun in many companies as the situation with the sharp transfer of most employees to the remote work is unprecedented."

“Today, the project management team will have to maintain a balance in the interaction of participants with each other, constantly look for new formats, use tools that allow to effectively exchange information and achieve goals,” Akhundova said.

“Due to the pandemic, many projects were suspended and postponed to a later date,” the executive director said. “Only a small part of the projects are being implemented, but this also requires certain investments and resources. Is the pandemic a force majeure for the projects or not, that's the question.”

“The companies with a project management team set a timeframe during which in case of force majeure, one side must notify the other,” Akhundova said.

“The parties may establish the period of validity of force majeure circumstances, in case of exceeding of which the contract is subject to termination, or the parties conduct special negotiations to determine possible alternative options for fulfilling the contract,” the executive director said.

“In accordance with our estimates, the projects that are financed through bank lending or foreign investments have suffered more during this difficult period for all,” Akhundova said.

AzPMA is the national branch of International Project Management Association (IPMA) in Azerbaijan.

It is a non-governmental public organization founded in Baku in 1999. AzPMA holds an active position in the market of intellectual services in the field of modern project management technologies and company development and has successfully implemented a number of projects during its 20-year history.
