Quake shakes northwestern Iran

An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook vicinity of Siah Cheshmeh in northwestern province of West Azerbaijan Sunday morning, Irna reported.

Siah Cheshmeh is located in border area between West Azarbaijan and Turkey. According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 08:53 hours local time (0423 GMT).

The geographical position of earthquake is reported at 38.69 degrees longitude and 44.27 degrees latitude. There were no reports of any damage to property caused by the quake.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
