The president of Georgia Mikhail Saakhashvili, the president of Georgia said in the first meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. According to Saakashvili, the profound changes took place in the Government for the last years based on the professional principles. The President said that the main task of the government is the maintenance of the positive tendencies, the alleviation of the poverty in the country and the first results of the taken measures must be submitted in 50 days.
The President does not expect the problem of poverty to be solved for this short period, but he believes that the population 'will see first real steps in this regard.' Saakashvili said that one of the key priorities of the program Georgia without Poverty is the villages and it requires the supply of fuel and fertilizer.
The relevant measures must be taken for the further increase in the pensions. The additional resources will be spent for this purpose obtained as a result of the overfulfilment of the collection of taxes in December and January, the President said. "Though the Government underwent frequent modifications for the last four years the situation has been stabilized over the last period. I do not have personal remarks with regard to the former Government, but the profound changes were necessitated by the fact that the results of their work were not satisfactory," the president said.
The President said that he wants to see the Government formed of the people who are able to defend their positions based on patriotism. "I do not want to see those in the Government who agree with everyone and do not have their own opinions," the President said. He called on the Government members to the permanent dialogue with the society at all levels.
The President said that the governors should frequently visit the people and communicate with them. "We are meant for the people and should give an account only to them," the President said. The President Saakashvili wished success to the new government at the end of the meeting. He said that he will take more active part in the work of the government from now on.
