Aggravation of the situation, it is caused by the provocative steps taken by the Russian side since 6 March 2008, which in fact led to the Russian Federation's increasingly isolated position in the international organizations, reported Prime-News.

It is said at the statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in response of the statement of Russian MFA Spokesperson Nesterenko concerning the modification of the peace operation format in Abkhazia, Georgia.

"Subject to the universally recognized norms and principles of international law, Georgia has appealed to the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States with a request to launch consultations for the modification of the mandate of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces", the statement said.

According to the ministry, the Georgian side always keeps itself within the framework of civilized relations acclaimed by the democratic world and refrains, unlike Russia, from taking unilateral and irresponsible steps.

"At the same time, the international community considering Russia as a party to the conflict unequivocally supports the peace initiatives of the President of Georgia and the Georgian side's well-balanced political position and activity" the statement reads..
