Russia Could not Achieve Its Tasks: Georgian President
Georgia, Tbilisi, 2 October /corr. Trend N.Kirtskhalia / The war against Georgia was attended by 80,000 Russian soldiers and 3,000 units of armament, 200 flights were made by tens of aircraft of combat aviation, the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili stated at the meeting with the Minister of Defense.
"Several thousands of more units of
armament were brought to the borders of Georgia because physically our
territory would not be sufficient for such number of armament," he said.
The President stated that according to different data, Russia lost nearly 2,000 soldiers, two hundred tanks, 17 aircrafts. "All these are the result of the heroic fight of our servicemen," he said, emphasizing that the army obtained large experience.
"From our side, 178 soldiers perished, 46 were missing, and this is large loss for us," he said. "Major part of our armament was preserved, and all talks that we had some special tanks, Israelis, Ukrainians and Americans fought are lie, and you know all these themselves, but they need to somehow explain such serious losses," said Saakashvili.
The President said that Russia did not achieve the goals to control over oil and gas pipelines passing through Georgia. "It could not thus realize these tasks, saddle Caspian and Black Sea regions, but danger still exists, and no one today can say what will happen further," said the President of Georgia.
He said that in Georgia was not destroyed the authority, state structure, army. "This can push Russia to a new aggression," he noted.
