Georgia now expects the results of the negotiations on the terms of Russia's entry into the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Georgian President's spokesperson Manana Manjgaladze said at a regular briefing on Tuesday.

"During yesterday's meeting between Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey and Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili, it was announced that Russia has asked for time to consider its position on the proposal of Switzerland to act as a third party ensuring the monitoring of the border issues," Manjgaladze said.

She reiterated that Georgia agreed to Bern's compromise proposal on the terms of Russia's accession to the WTO.

"The main thing for us is to ensure the customs control over cargo transportation through Georgia's border sections that are outside our control such as on the Psou (Abkhazia) and the Roki Tunnel (South Ossetia)," she added.

The Swiss proposal provides for controls on the movement of goods by international observers on Russia's borders with Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the exchange of e-information on the subject.
