Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has invited the Speaker of U.S. House of Representatives, John Boehner to visit Georgia.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has invited the Speaker of U.S. House of Representatives, John Boehner to visit Georgia. The invitation was made at a meeting during which President Saakashvili thanked Mr Boehner for his personal intervention in the development of resolutions which expresses support for Georgia's territorial integrity and de-occupation.

President Saakashvili also met with other U.S. lawmakers, Republican and Democrat and with senators. The main topics of discussion were security, Georgia's participation in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan and the deepening of Georgian-U.S. cooperation.
"Georgia is a strategic partner of the United States. I thanked the Georgian president for the country's assistance to us in Afghanistan. The country has paid in full for such friendship," Mr Boehner said.

In turn, President Saakashvili said Georgia wants to be a strategic partner of the U.S. and is ready to deepen relations with them.

"We are beginning to cooperate in the area of free trade. Wherever we go, all we hear are statements of support for Georgia and are grateful for all you do for us," Mr Saakashvili said.
