The leader of the opposition coalition Georgian Dream billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili refused to participate in parliamentary elections in Georgia under the terms of the authorities.

The amendments to the Constitution leads to "erosion and destruction" of the Georgian statehood in which he did not intend to participate, Ivanishvili said in an open letter to Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili sent on Tuesday.

Changes in the law on elections enable participation of EU citizens, which either was born in Georgia or has been living in the country for last 5 years. Moreover, these changes allow them to occupy the highest positions - Chairman of the Parliament, the Prime Minister.

Ivanishvili accused the president that he unlawfully deprived him of citizenship and does not want to return it, and therefore goes to the "erosion" of statehood and its foundations. He rejects the proposed amendments, and recommended the president to return the citizenship, for which he is ready to apply again.

However, if this decision not be accepted, Ivanishvili will not take advantage of the constitutional amendments, refuse to nominate for the parliament and head motion in the form the law allows for non-citizens of Georgia.
