The elections in the South Caucasus, particularly Georgia, have been discussed in the U.S. Helsinki Commission. According to Radio Freedom, the discussion was called, "Democratization in the Caucasus."
Independent expert Thomas de Waal, Freedom house representative Christopher Walker and Regional Director of the International Republican Institute Stephen Nix attended the discussion.
"It was stressed that the last election cycle began in the South Caucasus on May 6 by the parliamentary elections in Armenia, followed by parliamentary elections in Georgia in October this year," radio Liberty said.
Thomas de Waal said that there is a big difference between the situation in the capital and regions. This is characteristic systemic issue for all three countries.
"For example, Tbilisi, in many ways can be compared with the capital of a free and democratic country in Central Europe," the expert said.
"The situation is different in the provinces, where opposition activists often complain of harassment."
