Russian-language TV channel suspended in Georgia

Employees of the Russian-language TV channel in Georgia "PIC"(the First Informational Caucasian) intend to seek renewal of cable and satellite broadcasting after it was suspended Saturday. At the moment the channel is broadcasting only over the internet, Voice of Russia reported.

The journalists will be pressing for a financial audit of the Public Broadcaster of Georgia, with whom "PIC" had a contract, to shed light on the whereabouts of the budget finances, initially allocated for the channel.

PIC's future has been in the balance ever since the coalition "Georgian Dream" secured victory in the elections.

At the same time members of the coalition have repeatedly stated that Georgia needs a Russian-language channel.
