Georgia will continue military cooperation with the United States, which include receive and purchase of arms, candidate for minister of defense Irakli Alasania said on Tuesday at a hearing in Parliament.

"Strategic partnership with the U.S. in the military sphere is a priority for the new government of Georgia," Alasania said, noting that he is going to develop the Georgian air defense system in the first place.

Alasania promised to fulfill all obligations in the area of defense. He noted that the ministry will pay great attention to the training and approval of financial discipline.

"We need to make sure that no one had motive for the attack on Georgia," he added.

The candidate for minister said he intends to organize an audit of the Ministry of Defense. "Over the years, tens of millions have been spent, it was without accounting, and this should be studied by the relevant authorities," Alasania said.

According to him, "the Ministry of Defence was soaked in irresponsibility, there was no civil control, and there were cases of abuse of military honor. Our goal - to create opportunities for all military personnel, to ensure their social protection so that they carry out an important mission," he said.
