Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze and the Silk Road Company head Giorgi Ramishvili have discussed a project to construct hydropower stations on the River Bakhvistskali, the Georgian Ministry of Energy said today.

The project is being implemented by a Turkish company, which is a subsidiary of Silk Road's partner international holding company the Kusto Group. Ramishvili is the CEO of Silk Road.

The Centre for Environmental Law and the Green Movement has taken a stand against the construction of hydropower stations on the River Bakhvistskali. They consider the project threatens the unique ecosystem of Bakhmaro.

It is planned to construct three cascades with a capacity of 35 megawatts on the river. Around $100 million has already been invested.
