Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan.22 / Trend N.Kirtskhalia /

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia is demanding the postponing of a hearing on the case of former Interior Minister Bacho Akhalaia from Jan.30 to Feb.27.

The Prosecutor's Office requested this move by the fact more time is needed for a fully-fledged investigation, Bacho Akhalaia's lawyer Malkhaz Velidzhanashvili told reporters on Tuesday.

According to the lawyer, supposedly on Jan.25 it will be become clear whether the court grants the petition. He said that another request for postponing the hearing indicates that the Prosecutor's Office does not have sufficient evidence.

Initially the hearing was scheduled for Dec.25, 2012, but at the request of the Prosecutor's Office it was postponed to Jan.30, 2013.

As another lawyer David Dekanoidze said the Prosecutor's Office rushed to detain Akhalaia.

Bacho Akhalaia is accused of abuse of power during his tenure as minister.
