Minibus drivers’ strike continues in Tbilisi

Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan. 30 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /

A strike of minibus drivers has now been running for six days in Tbilisi. Negotiations between representatives of Tbilisi Minibus and striking drivers mediated by Tbilisi City Hall gave no results. The drivers intend continuing indefinitely.

As members of the drivers' initiative group told journalists, their main demand for a reduction of working hours by Tbilisi Minibus has not been met.

According to the statement, the strikers see no way out of this situation at this stage and therefore, continue the strike indefinitely. As the minibus drivers noted, the process may become more large scale if other bus and public transport drivers join in.

Tbilisi minibus drivers have been on strike since January 24. In particular, they demand a reduction of their daily working hours, abolition of the individual self-employed status and better working conditions.
