Attempts to stir up the situation on the border of the secessionist Georgian region of South Ossetia aimed at the election campaign in Georgia and especially the attempts to blame Russia are wrongful, a statement of the Foreign Ministry of Russia says, RIA Novosti reported.

The Foreign Ministry of Georgia claims that Russian border guards installed fences with barbed wire on the border of the secessionist Georgian region of South Ossetia. According to Tbilisi, in some areas the line was moved inside Georgia.

Large scale military actions were launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
