Switzerland can be a very important partner for Georgia in terms of restoring OSCE mission in the country, Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze, who is on official visit in Switzerland said on Friday.

According to her, one of the main tasks of Georgian government is to restore OSCE mission in the country.

"In this connection, we met with Secretary General of OSCE a few days ago, but Switzerland, which holds OSCE chairmanship with Serbia within two years, can be a very important partner for us in this regard," Georgian Foreign Minister noted.

Panjikidze met with the chairman of Swiss Parliament Filippo Lombardi and discussed the issues of bilateral relations with him.

Lombardi noted during the meeting that Switzerland is interested in intensifying political, economic relations, as well as intensification of contacts at parliamentary level.

OSCE Mission left Georgia after the war of 2008.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
