Georgian Speaker says course for European integration remains unchanged

Georgian Speaker Davit Usupashvili assured of the inviolability of strategic goal of the country to join the EU and NATO.

This course has not changed, and has been approved by the Parliament of Georgia in 2013, Usupashvili said Nov.6 at a briefing.

"The Prime Minister of Georgia also confirmed loyalty to this course and it was hailed the only way for development of the country when adopting this government," he said.

However, Usupashvili said that with the resignation of the ministers of foreign affairs and on European integration will hinder this process.

"Now we have to look for new people, to adjust links and it will take some time, but the strategy remains unchanged," he said.

Parliament Speaker thanked all the ministers who resigned, saying that they have done a lot for the European integration of Georgia.

Regarding a political crisis erupted in the country Usupashvili said that the parties have hurried, which led to a confrontation. "This issue could have been resolved without such a sharp confrontation, but whatever happened did happen," he said.

Recently, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maia Panjikidze and her deputies - Davit Zalkaliani, Tamar Beruchashvili, Davit Jalagania and Vladimer Gurgenidze resigned.

Recently, at the conclusion of the political council meeting of the Georgian Dream bloc, PM Irakli Garibashvili made a statement that he dismissed Defense Minister Irakli Alasania. Alasania's colleague and friend, the State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alexi Petriashvili and Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze resigned with all deputies as well.
