First cargo transported by railway from China to Georgia
Tbilisi, Georgia, Feb. 10
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:
The first rail cargo transportation has been carried out from China to Georgia.
Georgian Railway told Trend Feb. 10 that the transportation was realized as part of a joint project of the British company WELL (Worldwide Energy Logistics Ltd.) and the Kazakh company Kedentransservice.
The Varketili container terminal in Tbilisi will hold a presentation in connection with the implementation of this project.
The Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili, as well as the representatives of China, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan will attend the presentation.
The rail transportation started in China on January 29, 2015, and the unloading took place in Georgia on February 6.
The project's realization was possible thanks to the cooperation between the administrative bodies of railways of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
"The project provides for the shortest delivery of goods from China to the Black Sea ports of Georgia, and from there, to Europe," said the Georgian Railway.
