Georgian airports served about 1.7 million passengers with regular and irregular flights from January through September 2021, which is 121.30 percent more than over the same period of 2020, Trend reports via Georgian AviaNews.

Georgian airports served a total of 777,053 passengers over the first 9 months of 2020, compared to 4.1 million passengers in the same period of 2019. The data from January through September 2021 shows a decrease of 58.46 percent, compared to the same indicators of 2019.

The dynamics of reducing the flow of passengers began from February 2020, when countries began to close their borders to prevent COVID-19 spread, and air traffic was also suspended.

Due to the current epidemiological situation, Georgia has suspended regular international flights since March 21, 2020. After a several months pause, the gradual lifting has started. However, in context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation around the world is unpredictable, and the consequences of the restrictions imposed by the fourth wave are still unknown.

Tbilisi International Airport served 1.1 million passengers, which is 110.43 percent more than the number of passengers transported over the first 9 months of 2020.

Batumi International Airport transported 415,777 passengers over the first 9 months of 2021, which is 713.88 percent more than in 2020, and 20.66 percent less than the number of passengers in the same period of 2019.

Kutaisi International Airport served 163,582 passengers from January through September 2021, which is a decrease of 74 percent, compared to the pre-pandemic rates. According to the statistics, there was a 10.23 percent decrease in passenger traffic from January through September 2021, compared to the same period of 2020.
