Georgian foreign trade turnover increases

Georgian foreign trade turnover from January through September 2021 amounted to $10 billion – an increase of 22.3 percent, compared to $8.1 billion over the same period of 2020, Trend reports via National Statistics Office (Geostat).

According to the statistics, Georgian exports from January through September 2021 amounted to $2.9 billion, which is an increase of 24 percent, compared to $2.4 billion over the same period of 2020.

Georgian imports over the first 9 months of 2021 amounted to $7 billion, which is an increase of 21.6 percent, compared to $5.7 billion in the reporting period of 2020, the report said.

The negative trade balance’s share in the reporting period of 2021 accounted for 40.4 percent of the total trade turnover and totaled $4 billion, compared to 41.3 percent, or $3.3 billion, in 2020, Geostat said.

The share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia from January through September 2021 amounted to 77.6 percent. The top partners were China ($478.3 million), Russia ($426.2 million), and Azerbaijan ($400.2 million).

The share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia from January through September 2021 amounted to 67.2 percent. The top partners were Turkey ($1.2 billion), Russia ($718.8 million), and China ($599.9 million).
