Georgia’s wheat imports double in 9M2021

Georgian wheat and meslin flour imports from January through September 2021 amounted to 16.4 million tons worth $4.8 million, Trend reports via National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The current figure increased, compared 8 million tons (worth $2.2 million) of imports over the same period of 2020.

TOP-5 exporters of wheat and meslin flour to Georgia (Jan. through Sept. 2021):

Russia – $4.6 million (15.7 million tons);

Turkey – $85,510 (184,000 tons);

Italy – $62,110 (77,120 tons);

Ukraine – $52,270 (170,000 tons);

Lithuania – $40,660 (142,100 tons).

Russia remained the top exporter of wheat to Georgia over first 9 months of 2021, though increasing exports, compared to $1.8 million (6.7 million tons) of wheat in the same period of 2020.

Thus, Russia’s share in the total Georgian wheat imports over the reporting period of 2021 accounted for 95.8 percent.
