Georgia reveals main importers of its hazelnuts

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 17

Georgia has exported up to 13,000 tons of hazelnuts worth $59.4 million from August 2021, Trend reports, referring to the Facebook publication of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.

The volume of hazelnut exports during the reporting period of 2021increased by 35 percent (3,300 tons), compared to the same period of 2020/2021, while the value of exports increased by 12 percent ($6.3 million).

According to the ministry, Georgian hazelnuts are mainly exported to European countries, as well as to neighboring countries.

TOP 10 importers of Georgian hazelnuts:

Italy – 5,549 tons;

Germany – 2,222 tons;

Armenia – 788 tons;

China – 680 tons;

Spain – 402 tons;

Czech Republic – 401 tons;

Poland – 315 tons;

Ukraine – 256 tons;

Russia – 252 tons;

Lithuania – 218 tons.

The Ministry of Agriculture notes that since 2016, as a result of the spread of marble bugs and fungal diseases, the production of hazelnuts and its exports began to decline and in 2018 reached a minimum of 17,000 tons.

According to the ministry, the hazelnut harvest in 2021 is of high quality due to active and purposeful work on the pest extermination. It is planned to collect about 65,000-70,000 tons the export potential of which is $150 million.
