Passenger flow in Georgia's airports slowly getting back on track

Georgian airports restored the passenger traffic by 44 percent from January through October 2021, compared to the same period of 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic), Georgian Civil Aviation Agency said, Trend reports via AviaNews.

According to the Civil Aviation Agency, Georgian airports served more than 2 million passengers on regular and irregular flights in the reporting period of 2021, which is 151.3 percent more than from January through October 2020 (799,016 passengers), and 56 percent less, compared to the same period of 2019 (4.5 million passengers).

Tbilisi International Airport served 1.3 million passengers over first 10 months of 2021, which is an increase of 138.9 percent, compared to 556,635 passengers over the same period of 2020.

However, the current figure decreased by 59.1 percent, compared to 3.2 million passengers over the reporting period of 2019.Thus, Tbilisi Airport restored the passenger flow by 40.8 percent of the 2019 level.

Meanwhile, a serious increase in passenger flow is observed at Batumi International Airport, which served 460,717 passengers over first 10 months of 2021 – 799.5 percent more than in the same period of 2020 (51,217 passengers), and 19.4 percent less than in the same period of 2019 (571,604 passengers).

Thus, Batumi Airport restored the passenger flow by 80.6 percent of the 2019 rate.

Kutaisi International Airport served 206,218 passengers from January through October 2021, which is an increase of 12.4 percent, compared to 183,426 passengers over the same period of 2020.

However, the same index decreased by 71.3 percent, compared to the reporting period of 2019, when Kutaisi Airport served 719,752 passengers.

Due to the current epidemiological situation, Georgia has suspended regular international flights since March 21, 2020. After a pause of several months, the gradual lifting of the regulation began.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation around the world is unpredictable and the consequences of the restrictions imposed are still unknown.
