Georgia renovating road infrastructure, backed by World Bank

Georgia is overhauling the roads in the Guria region with the financial support from the World Bank, Trend reports via the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.

“The total length of the road sections under repair is 62 km, and the project budget is 58.5 million Georgian lari ($18.9 million),” the Department said.

The project provides for the complete restoration of highways, including replacement of the road base, installation of drainage systems, construction of artificial structures and retaining walls, laying of asphalt concrete pavement.

Also, restoration work on Sajavakho-Chokhatauri-Ozurgeti-Kobuleti road (Nasakirali pass) in Western Georgia will be completed in May 2022, the statement said.

As part of the project to restore the 8.5-kilometer section of the Sajavakho-Chokhatauri-Ozurgeti-Kobuleti road (Nasakirali pass) 80 percent of retaining walls, 72 percent of culverts and 50 percent of a drainage system have already been installed.

The contract deadline for the completion of road-related work on the Nasakirali section is 12 months, and the completion date is May 27, 2022.

Meanwhile, the restoration of the Chokhataur road section, it is already in the final phase. The completion date is January 27 of the current year.

Road work in the Guria area are carried out by China Road and Bridge Corporation.
